Women in Jigawa Contribute N1,000 To Purchase Car For Pregnancy Emergency -Channelstv
Women in the Baddo group in Jigawa state’s Taura local government area donated N1,000 each to purchase a vehicle to take pregnant women to hospital during delivery.
They contributed the money out of the conditional cash transfer that the federal government implemented, according to the women.
One of the women, Halima Adamu Boddo, told Channels Television that three years ago a vehicle that had been donated to them for hospital trips had broken down, opening up the need for a new vehicle.
“We’re getting from the federal with the cash transfer, we’re sitting down and thinking about how we should support ourselves,” Halima said. “So, each one of us agreed to contribute N1,000 and we bought this car.
Zayya Auwalu was another donor to the initiative and was one of the first women’s sets to profit.
“We are very happy to receive that money. I’ve been taken to the hospital in the car that we bought when I was about to give birth to this baby that I’m helping, “said Zayya.
Hadiza Abdulwahab, the Executive Director of the Comprehensive Development Rural Initiative, claims that the women in the group deserve commendation.
“It is also a sign of great altruism for women to have thought about their fellow women, so these women deserve commendation,” she said.
For his part, Mr. Musbahu Basirka, the chairman of the Jigawa State Civil Society Forum, says the government needs to do more to establish health centers in communities hard to access.
